The Power of SEO

Information has never been so easily and quickly accessible. So much so that we have become lazier and lazier when it comes to finding information. Not long ago, many of us would have gone to our local library and spent a few hours trying to hunt down a book to source needed information. Now it only takes as little as 10s to find information on almost anything.

So how does this fit into the picture of Digital Marketing?

Well, let me introduce to you a little thing called “SEO” or as it’s known Search Engine Optimisation. Which according to Siri means, “The process of affecting the visibility of a website or web page in a web search engine’s unpaid results”. Basically doing things to your website so you are on the first page of a search engine, which most of the time is Google.com.

So how does one “Search Engine Optimise”?

Well, there are several key factors to Search Engine Optimise.

  1. Content is KING!
    – Arguably the most important factor in search engine optimisation is having quality content. There’s no point having a fancy looking website when your content doesn’t back it up and doesn’t provide your business with any real return or benefit on investment.
  2. Keywords!
    – Ensure you are using not only relevant but keywords. Think about how you are a customer would go about searching a product. What words would you include in your search? Some keywords to think about are ones that allow you to target your market, think about location, price and type of service, or attracting keywords such as “free”  or “discount”.
  3. Headings!
    – Let’s do a quick test together. Open your favourite search engine (mines Google.com) and search for “”plumbers Melbourne”. Which one is the most attractive link going by just the heading? “24 Hour Plumber Melbourne – $50 off Today” or  ” Plumber Melbourne | 24/7 Plumbing, Gas Fitting and Hot Water Services “. Small changes in the heading of your website can make a huge difference.Screen Shot 2017-05-01 at 3.54.37 pm.png
